Dr. Terry Chalaturnyk graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1978 with the title of Doctor of Optometry. After graduation, he worked with Dr. Price in Kitchener, Ontario before moving to his home province of Manitoba. During this time, Terry gained experience in determining what kind of optometric practice he wanted to establish. In 1982 a small optometric practice was for sale in the town of Newmarket, just north of Toronto. It did not take long to realize that this area would be the place to establish his optometric practice as well as to raise his family.
The practice is located in the York Professional Building, 679 Davis Dr., Newmarket, across from Southlake Hospital. Originally encompassing only 600 sq ft, the practice has undergone 2 expansions, growing in size to 1200 sq ft, in 1987 and then to 3000 sq ft in 1997. The expansions provided the opportunity to better enable designation of specific areas for special testing, such as Optomap, OCT, and Visual Field Analyzer. Two additional doctor lanes were created to accommodate two associate doctors. Dr. Bridge is now continuing with the practice’s pursuit of excellence in eye care . In addition our optical frame area grew in size to accommodate well over 800 spectacle frames. Our on-site finishing lab provides us the opportunity to streamline spectacle delivery.
Dr. Chalaturnyk had envisioned right from the beginning an optometry practice in which his patients’ experience would encompass not just a “refractive” eye test, but a comprehensive visual assessment, including recommendations of treatments needed, such as corrective eyewear spectacles or contact lenses, medical referrals if required, laser co-management, and the hands on commitment and guarantee of excellence in patient care.
